It’s easy to get carried away when choosing things for your tiny baby. The colors and patterns are irresistible, the nifty features leave you wanting to try each one, and the sheer number of options makes it hard to stop at just one.
Not to mention, when you see other moms’ arsenal of baby essentials, it’s easy to assume that everything will come in handy.
I’ve been on both sides of this dilemma. Yes, I’ve bought things that I never ended up using, but I’ve had the opposite problem too. My minimalist roots convinced me not to buy certain essentials (or at least not to buy them right away) and I cursed myself with that decision. (8PM – right before bedtime is not the best time to run out of crib sheets, and 4AM is not the best time to decide you’d like to start using a pacifier…when you don’t have one.)
Each article below will give you a run down of the bare minimum of each type of item to start with if you want to avoid over-buying, as well as a more comfortable number that I think most moms will use, why you’ll actually use it, and how to choose the best option for your little baby.
